Metro Mayors Caucus Announces Strong Support for Professional Women’s Hockey League and Women’s Professional Sports & Leadership Day

DENVER, CO — The Metro Mayors Caucus (MMC), representing 38 mayors and more than 3 million Coloradans across the Denver metropolitan region, has formally issued a statement of support for the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) and the upcoming Women’s Professional Sports & Leadership Day on March 15, 2026.

In a letter addressed to Amy Scheer, Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the Professional Women’s Hockey League, the Caucus highlighted the significance of the upcoming game in Denver as a pivotal moment for the region.

"The March 15 game in Denver marks an important moment in establishing Colorado as a hub for women’s professional sports and reflects our shared commitment to opportunity and innovation," the Caucus stated. "We are proud to support this event and the continued success of women’s professional hockey."

The Metro Mayors Caucus supports the growth of professional women’s sports for several key reasons:

  • Economic Vitality: The growth of professional women’s hockey brings meaningful benefits to the region, including increased tourism, small business activity, and job creation.

  • Regional Pride: High-visibility professional sports strengthen community engagement and foster a sense of shared regional identity across the 38 member jurisdictions.

  • Youth Leadership: Women athletes serve as powerful role models for Colorado’s youth. The skills developed through sports—confidence, teamwork, and leadership—directly translate into successful careers in business, public service, and civic life.

  • A Growing Hub: With women’s professional sports reaching new heights in visibility, the MMC is committed to positioning the Denver metro area as a premier destination for professional women's athletics.

As local elected leaders representing over 3 million Coloradans, the Metro Mayors Caucus remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that bring economic opportunity and inspire the next generation of leaders across the state.

About the Metro Mayors Caucus

The Metro Mayors Caucus powered by Civic Results is a unique coalition of mayors from across the Denver metropolitan area, representing 38 municipalities and more than 3 million Coloradans— over half of the state’s population. Mayors formed MMC in 1993 to provide a non-partisan vehicle for regional dialogue and cooperation on issues that transcend individual municipal boundaries. MMC serves as a distinctive platform that cultivates personal connections and leverages dialogue to achieve shared goals, address challenges, and develop solutions that benefit both the region and its member municipalities.

The Metro Mayors Caucus operates on a unique consensus-based decision-making model, ensuring that our positions reflect a true regional agreement across partisan and geographic lines.  MMC does not take a formal position on legislation unless a super-majority of our 38 member mayors is in agreement.
